What is Swarm?
"Swarm" is an exhilarating and visual feast where you manage a school of fish, gazing across a quick-changing underwater world rife with danger and hazards. The basic premise is exquisite in its simplicity-but so engaging: it is a collective existence in which your survival-fate depends partly upon individual skill but also on group cohesion. Avoid predators like sharks, avoid obstacles, and master the peculiar art of swimming together. It tests your reflexes, strategic outlook, and grasp of teamwork in a setting so rarely seen.
How to Play
The player serves as a school of fish in "Swarm" and controls the characters with the keyboard and gamepad. WASD keys (or arrow keys) allow you to move the character in different directions, and the mouse/right stick helps to turn. Avoiding larger fish such as sharks or bigger fish and other obstacles is the basic objective of the game. Staying with your school is very important because together with others present in your school offers strength. At times, you may choose to split off and roam freely or try to evade certain dangers. Controls are simple and intuitive; therefore, you can just start swimming right away.
Tips & Tricks
- Stay Together: While individual assessment of the situation is important, staying with your school will put you on a better position on successfully avoiding predators. Besides, the multidirectional movement of the group serves as an effective defense mechanism.
- Observe and Predict Their Movements: Sharks, in particular, tend to have predictable paths of movement. Learn to anticipate their motions and time your motions to evade them.
- Use Obstacles and Currents to Your Advantage: Some levels contain obstacles or currents that can hinder activities of predators, so use them in your favor.
- Split Off When It Profit: Don't be afraid to split purposely from the group if you see signs that there is a safe path or immediate need to evade a threat, though always rejoin when it is safe.
History
Swarm was developed by Dirty Paws Studio, a passionate group of software developers led by Daniela Meinhardt, Fabian Schober, Franz Josef Huber, and Peter Hafele. The major thematic concerns of the game deal with union, survival, and the wonder of nature; yet the game attempts to engage these themes in a newly fashion. It was an indie game, but immediately gained momentum and recognition for its psychedelic graphics, intense gameplay, and outside-the-box storyline that really give a tribute to genre-defying creativity and could've only been executed by a passionate set of developers.
Play Unblocked
The unsuspecting default settings of the game enable it to be played unblocked in locations, such as schools or workplaces. Some schools and workplaces do have filters that would block certain games, but "Swarm" is very light and would probably not be in any of their default block listings. If, however, it's being blocked, check for variations from the IT department, or if available, use a web-based version.
Game Developer
Dirty Paws Studio consists of an elite and somewhat diminutive circle of software meaningfully dedicated to carving unique game experiences. Their works are mostly concentrated on innovative game mechanics interlaid upon striking visual designs inspired by nature and the environment. "Swarm" stands tall as perhaps among the best masterpieces borne out of their hard work, where beauty and challenge go hand in hand in glorious unison.
Game Platforms
Swarm is made available on several platforms, making it accessible to a more diverse population. It is mainly available for PC users through Steam or directly from the developer, and for mobile users on iOS and Android. Such versatility allows one to enjoy this undersea adventure wherever life takes them.
